Our parents committee is a voluntary committee who, over the course of a year, meet once a month to discuss and coordinate many things to do with the kindergarten.
Some of these include:
Being on the committee gives you an added sense of community, it is a great way to meet new people in the area, it also gives you the opportunity to have input you’re your child’s experience at kinder. There is guidance from prior year with an annual program of activities, notes and templates to work from. Meetings are held after work hours, we have a mix of zoom and in real life meetings, depending on what is safest at the time. Many of our committee members join for several years in a row, enjoying the role even after their kids have left Somers Parade.
Every year in November we hold an AGM and call for nominations for the following year’s committee. Included below is a description of the various positions on the committee.
President
The President is the key person and public face of the Committee. The key function of the President is to ensure an efficient and well run Committee of Management. They do this by chairing committee meetings, coordinating the work of the committee and participating in decision making in important issues affecting the center.
The President is responsible for liaising with Council and ECMS.
Vice President
The Vice President’s role is to assist the President and to chair meetings in the President’s absence. The Vice President should follow up action items from meeting minutes approximately 2 weeks prior to the following meeting to offer assistance to any Committee Members in completing the required actions.
Treasurer
The Treasurer is responsible for preparing an annual budget, keeping accurate financial records, paying bills and accounts, banking of money received and presenting monthly reports to the Committee of Management. Assistance is available for this role from ECMS if needed.
The Committee of Management will elect an Assistant Treasurer &/ or Secretary to assist.
Fundraiser x2
Coordinate with the Teacher and Events Organiser the incursions/excursions for the year. Formulate a plan for raising funds for the kindergarten throughout the year through activities such as tea towels, picture plates, toy catalogs, as well as activities outside the kindergarten such as the sausage sizzle at Bunnings.
Marketing and Communications Coordinator
In conjunction with President & fundraising develop and oversee the general marketing and publicity strategy for kinder. This includes advertising materials for both online, print and external use. updating social media such as Facebook with appropriate content and Supply information to external party for updates to Kindergarten website.
Pet Monitor
This position is to ensure that the pets we keep at kindergarten are cared for appropriately. It involves keeping up stock for food and hay. There is a pet roster where families volunteer for weekend care. The Pet Monitor is a backup contact should any families have any problems. Ideally, this person would be available to clean and check the pets once a week.
General Committee Members
Come along to meetings one evening each month, participate in decisions relating to the kindergarten, hear what’s going on and maybe help out with small jobs if required. Opportunity to assist with current projects and subcommittees as required.
Grants Coordinator
Help secure valuable grants for the kindergarten
Events Coordinator
Working with the Fundraising Officers and other members of the Committee, you will coordinate the organisation of events held at the Kindergarten. In recent years this has included Disco Night and Kindergarten Open Days.
